CAMISA + SAIA: SIMPLES E POUCO COMUM!
Where Do You Attitudes to Clothes Come From? - ()
.

.
When I'm with a client I like to understand them and why their clothes aren't working for them.  Quite often there are deep seated attitudes to clothes that they've never thought about, why they end up wearing clothes that make them look much older or younger than they are, or why they can't spend more than $60 on any 1 garment or accessory (including shoes).   We all have attitudes and beliefs about our worth and what clothes mean to us and their value to our lives.

I have met people who see no value in clothing apart from it covering their naked body.  They see clothes as waste, when not purely functional, not understanding how fun and creative it can be to play with clothes and use them to express their personality, and also to use them to create beauty in the world.

Some years ago (though not that many) I could only bargain shop, I found it almost impossible to ever buy a piece of clothing that wasn't on sale.    I was lucky enough to buy a copy of Brenda Kinsel's Wardrobe Companion and do some of the exercises in it.  It's the list of questions on page 54 that I found most useful, it asks about your shopping and clothing history (from childhood) asking about early experiences with clothes and shopping.

Answering these questions I discovered that when I thought about shopping when I was a teenager, I can still hear my mother's voice in my head saying  "I'm not buying you any shoes, you'll only grow out of them so it's a waste" what I internalised was "I'm not buying you anything because you are not worth it" and this led me to be a sales shopper because I didn't feel worth the full price.    Plus during my childhood I was often given either my older brother's hand-me-downs to wear, or other peoples, many of which I thought were ugly and did not want to wear.  Very little was ever spent on my wardrobe (though my parents spent plenty of money on me in other ways when growing up), as they didn't value clothes they did not see that I did value them.

As an adult, I can now look at the words and attitudes of my mother and understand that I was wrong to feel unworthy, and that it was my mother's own attitudes having been brought up during the 2nd World War by a mother who lived through the great depression, so she too was taught to be very frugal.

The more I understand about my own style preferences, the easier it is to know what is a great buy, regardless of price tag, and what is a waste (if it's not me, doesn't matter how cheap it is, it's a waste of money).  I now feel free from the burden of those beliefs.    Doesn't mean that I don't still LOVE a bargain!

Have you ever thought about where your clothing attitudes come from?    If you haven't, I highly recommend you working though Brenda's book, it can help you discover great insights and let you become current with who you are now, not who you were years ago.

You have the right to feel great and gorgeous in your clothes, for your clothes to express your personality, and  remember, you are always worth it, no matter what size or shape you are!

Plus, by looking great, you get to make the world a more beautiful place and also have an opportunity to be creative and take care and respect yourself and your body every day.  What's not great about that?

Size doesn’t really matter - (Corporate Class Inc.)
In fitting rooms across the planet, “Does it make me look fat?” — is without a doubt the pivotal issue that makes or breaks a clothing sale. Ultimately, it’s a rhetorical question because the woman doing the trying-on will make the call herself. If she has even the slightest uncertainty that the garment doesn’t shave [...]

Odd Couples & Other Unexpected Jewelry Mixes - (Jewels on Jewels | JCKonline)
Do opposites attract? Likely it is the commonalities that allow two very different individuals to succeed as a couple. So too, the fashion editors have been producing some unusual combinations of items that may at first glance seem to have little in common. In most cases, upon closer scrutiny, there are similarities that make the pairing or collection stronger in stylistic effect than its individual parts. Here are some of the latest examples: InStyle Makeover for fall 2010 shows actress Piper...

TU IMAGEN PERSONAL: SE HEREDA, SE COMPRA O SE APRENDE? - ()

si en tu familia sabian de color; o compraban buenas pinturas (costosas o de feria, no importa); si en tu casa tus mayores tenian buenos modales; si eran simpáticos de corazón grande; si sabían de vinos; si sabían callarse ante el chisme; o si heredaste el don del buen host; si eran puntuales;
HAS HEREDADO UN BUEN ESTILO.

No tienes tiempo?

NO PIERDAS TIEMPO. DISEÑA TU IMAGEN PERSONAL, IMAGÍNALA, VÍVELA.

THREE MAGIC BOXES- About your wardrobe and yourself, would you like to answer these questions? - ()
Hola, todos! Hi, everyone!

Since the wardrobe speaks volumes and Shakespeares and Cervantes about who we are...

OBJECTIVE TODAYto make your wardrobe work superbly for you, start up with these (meant to be fun) questions now and you´ll find yourself coming accross dear treasures in shops and wardrobes alike.

How´s your wardrobe doing today, these days, this past week?
GOOD, SO-SO, AWFUL, BORING, SPLENDID.

Do you feel/ see /hear the link between your creativity/ stress/ objectives accomplished- or not
and your wardrobe?
YES-NO (I do, all the time!)
When is it best? Worst?

Which is your ideal closet, physically and aesthetically speaking? How far/close are you from it? What do you need today?

(you may write to me for coaching for free but keep it under 20 lines, please...)

-
-
-
-
-

Is it more a work-all-work closet? YES-NO

Do you like your main activity/ies in life? YES-NO (sorry, some might suffer here but I ask all whose closet I audit and it helps things-and tears-flow)

Is your wardrobe mostly about it? YES-NO

Or is it about what you wish you could do? (Been there...)

Do you think you are more analytical than creative?  (there is no why, here, we are born that way)

Ia there enough room and items for elegance and FUN in your wardrobe?  Can you meet both?
YES-NO (better be yeeeessss... ;)

If you love your job, great, but what if you don´t
IF YOU DONT:  Are there still useful, dynamic, sassy clothes that say what you do EFFICIENTLY at work, with enough style? IF you must work for a living, that is, because you have to go out to work.
YES-NO.

Liking one´s life and ADORING one´s style and wardrobe have a lot to do, it´s been proven.

Still with me? Anything that was not clear for you upto now? YES-NO.
Please read again or write to me.

How much time a month do you put into it? (Three magic boxes will help you to LOVE DOING it) ONE HOUR A MONTH/
UHMMM...NONE/
ONCE A YEAR/
ONCE A SEMESTER/
WHEN I GET MARRIED AGAIN.
WHEN IT RAINS CANDY (valid too).

What are your feelings when you check your wardrobe out? ( when you´re HAPPY, SAD, OPTIMISTIC, SOMEONE HELPS) WHEN??

Does it resemble:
the you of decades ago or
the trip you never take/never use some things
or the you today, absolutely, with goals and obligations and fun and all. WHICH?

Does it resemble: what you´d like to be but are not yet (ASTRONAUT AT 40, PRESIDENT OF THE US, THINKING OF IMPROBABLE FUTURES)

DOES IT RESEMBLE...your mother´s father´s colours and style TOO MUCH AND YOU ARE SO DIFFERENT?

DO YOU SHOP AT THE SAME PLACES SINCE 2002?
-Does  your wardrobe represent you, with realistic money plans ($) and DREAMS today?
THE SINCEREST YES-NO ANSWER HERE, DARLING.
WE ARE IN THE MIDST OF A CRISIS!

(possible answers, if your sight is blurring: it does and I do keep my budget controlled and still have a certain style and flair to dress/
it does not represent my life/likings and wantings-can´t manage it and I need some help, by the way... or whatever you think, reader.

Do you keep wanting an ever bigger budget since you were ten? Meaning, never satisfied?
YES-NO (has to do with the previous answer, of course)

Do you feel (mostly about feelings, this wardrobe, great for heart tissue excercise  :-) that with your kind of life today, whatever the set, you can learn to optimize it, put more joy in it, dress more JOYFULLY, show off your best self to the world and to yourself? YES-NO
YOU MAY DOUBT, CRY AND SCREAM, BUT

                                                         BE HONEST TO YOURSELF!

all answers welcome. might be published. change your name if necessary. promise to write back within a week.
men and women welcome to your own best image!

Agueda and The Three Magic Boxes (tm)

Looking your best: an attitude changing tool? The Project Image experiment - (The Image Projector)

Recession, money issues and negativity affect everybody but looking our best can help us turn our mood around. When we feel good about ourselves this generates an energy that people pick up, and they want to be around us. We get attention, positive attention, hopefully and our attitude changes; eventually so does that one of everyone around. Put some effort into the way you project yourself, practice this for a week. You don't believe it? Try this:

How to look your best with what you already have:
- Make sure that what you wear fits you well: not too tight, not too lose.
- Wear a basic neutral (pants, skirt) and add a pop of color. Color adds energy.
- If you are in a traditional industry, color can be added in an accessory: purse, pocket square, tie, cardigan, hair clip.
- Ladies, put your basic make-up on: mascara, lip color, blush, eye-brow color and if you really want to try, eye shadow.
- Try to mix solid neutrals (see last tip) with patterns: checkers, flowers, geometrical designs. The most important thing is balance, don't go overboard.
- Layer your pieces to add a touch of personality: camisole and shirt, skirt and tights, shirt and cardigan, shirt and vest, shirt and scarf, you get the point.
- Look at the colors you tend to buy and pair up two pieces you have never put together; keep the tones of the same family together or otherwise contrasting pieces. Harmony is the key. I dare you to come up with 5 new outfits. Let me know.

Practice these very simple ideas this week, I'd like to know what happens...
