Welcome

AICI’s membership has grown tremendously in the past 20 years. Our membership in the US and outside the US are almost neck and neck now! We are as international as we are American and as non-English speaking as we are English-speaking. This is exciting news for our upcoming conference as it is AICI’s 20th annual conference. Appropriately, we have chosen a global theme to celebrate our global status. We are excited to be going to Vancouver, BC, Canada, May 20-23, 2010.

AICI strives to support, encourage, and educate our members in all aspects of image management. Through our international network, conference participants are able to share ideas and skills, and learn from each other. Please take this invaluable opportunity to become internationally informed. Come meet members from other cultures and learn how image consultants manage their businesses in other countries. It will be a delightful exploration for us all.

The 2010 conference schedule has changed. This will also be the last time that AICI will offer the First Level Certification exam in 2010, so if you are working towards becoming certified with AICI, this will be your opportunity to get started. Plan to join us for the Opening Luncheon on Thursday, May 20th, where you will learn what AICI has planned for 2010 and meet Liz Lynch, founder of the Center for Networking Excellence, and a top networking strategist and speaker. Liz will share how to get 24/7 networking results WITHOUT the 24/7 effort.

Be sure to explore the new conference website for information about workshops and concurrent sessions. We are introducing two tracks of sessions: beginners and intermediate/advanced. If you have just started your career as an image consultant or you have not yet taken AICI’s FLC exam, you will find two options in Track 1 in every time slot. These sessions include technical image information that will help you prepare for and pass your exam and practical tools to run your business. Track 2 will cater to those members who are more seasoned such as our CIPs and CIMs.  These sessions will be on business building at a higher level and ideas to expand your business.

Save $140 when you register online for full conference before April 2, 2010.  Click on the Registration tab for additional details. 2010 is an exciting year for AICI. I look forward to seeing you in Vancouver. Be sure to throw yourself in with all your energy; meet at least 10 new friends; benefit from all the education, networking, resources and events.

How To Build a Training Program That Gets Results

Elizabeth Weinstein
Elizabeth Weinstein, Ph.D.

Do you have expertise in a specific image consulting subject and want to share your experience with others but don’t know how to go about it? Or perhaps you’re an experienced trainer who wants to review the fundamentals of training design in order to reenergize your training presentations. This workshop will outline the fundamentals of how to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate a quality training presentation. Preparing for and conducting a training is like building a house. You begin with identifying the house you want (learning outcomes), then develop a blueprint (design the program), make sure it has a solid foundation (built on sound content and participant knowledge), create a strong structure (training framework), involve construction workers in the building process (audience participation), and assess the results (evaluate whether the outcomes were met). Come to this interactive session and learn about the fundamentals of sound training design and delivery.

Elizabeth Weinstein, Ph.D., has owned and successfully operated her consulting practice, Elizabeth Weinstein and Associates, Inc., for almost 20 years. Weinstein helps a variety of business corporations, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations in strategic planning, leadership development, continuous quality improvement, team building and project management. Peter Post (casual)

The Silent Language of Clothes @ Work

Beryl Wing
Beryl Wing, AICI CIP

“Dress appropriately for work.” Everyone says it. But what does it mean? Suit or separates? Skirt or pants? Prints or solids? The choices are daunting.

Clothes @ Work simplifies the work landscape. It identifies four distinct work cultures, clarifies which one any job falls into, and defines the style of dress expected of the successful in each field. Viewing clothes through the lens of communication, it spells out the colors, silhouettes, and textures that allow a person to project professionalism symbolically. As an added bonus, by the end of the session, you’ll be armed with standards by which to separate the appropriate from the disastrous in business casual. This information is useful for closet clearings and personal shopping as well as for corporate presentations. If you email questions or problem outfits to berylwing@aol.com in advance, she’ll address them either in the presentation or privately.

Beryl Wing is a corporate culture profiler and image strategist whose specialty is nonverbal branding and the silent language of clothes. She conducts professional seminars and private coaching sessions and writes about effective work dress and nonverbal success strategies. She is currently an instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology and a past president of the AICI New York Tri-State Chapter and has appeared on Inside Edition and on the History Channel, discussing the image of presidential candidates.

Catherine Bell

We’ll also examine how etiquette has changed as younger generations, who favor electronic communications, interact with seasoned professionals.

Before establishing PRIME Impressions in 1994, Catherine Bell gained a solid grounding in the fashion industry during 21 years as a head designer, merchandise manager, and professor of fashion design. Bell is the author of Managing Your Image Potential and a recipient of the prestigious AICI Award of Excellence in Education. Whether you work with clients one-on-one or with groups, this session will help you tailor your services, products and communications to the age and experience of your target audience.
