WASHINGTON D.C. FUN DAY 26 August 2015
The National Gallery of Art
We are headed to the National Gallery of Art with Carla Mathis. Many of the artworks that are in Carla’s book are still on exhibit in the Gallery.
We would like to pre-purchase the Metro tickets on Tuesday evening, for the subway rechargeable ticket cost $10 and gives you $8 to travel. Please find Joanne Rae, or Cecilia Stoeckicht on Tuesday and we will collect your money to have one person purchase all the tickets. Be sure to have cash with you - $10.
Wednesday 26th at 9.30am we will need to take the subway to go to The National Gallery of Art. We will divide you into small groups of 10 with someone to lead your group through the subway. From the hotel to the subway is about a 20 minute-walk to the Crystal City subway. We will take the Yellow line in the direction of Fort Totten and get off the train at the Archives – Navy Memorial station. It is a very short walk from the Archives subway station. When you come out of The Archives you will go left and then right to the National Gallery of Art. ** PLEASE HAVE SUNSCREEN, HAT AND UMBRELLA FOR THIS EVENT.
The National Gallery of Art opens at 10 AM. The group will meet at the steps of the museum and then we enter at the lower level at the cascade café where we will meet Carla Mathis and proceed on our Gallery treasure hunt!
After your tour and treasure hunt you will have time for lunch. There are several options available right at the museum. You will be responsible for your own lunch. They accept all major credit cards and cash, approximate cost $25.00.
Across the street is the sculpture garden fountains and restaurant.
With a panoramic view of the Sculpture Garden, the Pavilion Café offers specialty pizzas, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and assorted beverages.
Inside the museum you have 3 choices. The Cascade Café, with a view of the cascade waterfall, offers soups, salads, specialty entrées, wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, and a selection of fresh pastries and desserts. The Cascade Café features daily Chef's Table specials.
The Garden Café provides a serene spot for lunch in the West Building next to the Ground Floor galleries. Buffet menu offerings rotate on a bi-weekly basis with a selection of entrees, specialty greens, and antipasti offered each day.
Gelato and coffee bar - They also have a gelato and café station in case someone would like to splurge and have gelato as lunch and espresso as a dessert!
Museum shopping amazing – there is so much to choose from – start early on your Christmas list!
We will be leaving from the Museum no later than 2pm. We will travel from The Archives on the yellow line to go back to the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City to shop. Pentagon City is 3 stops from The Archives. Please do not get confused and get out at Pentagon – that is the military building and you would not be welcomed! You are free to wonder around the Mall – they have graciously given us Style Pass Coupon Booklets for special discounts throughout the mall as well as a Mall directory for each one.
We have two special things scheduled at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City.
At 3.00pm please meet at the TUMI Store (210 on the map second floor next to Fire and Ice) for a wonderful packing demonstration using TUMI luggage.
At 4.00pm Kate Spade will welcome our AICI members with Champagne and perhaps a special offer!
We encourage you to enjoy your shopping and there are many restaurants within the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. It is one short metro ride to the Crystal City Metro station to walk back to the Hotel or you can arrange to share taxis or the Hotel Shuttle.
