Mindfulness in Consulting (0.2 CEUs Chinese Session)
正念的咨询

Ana Cheong Cheok Yin, AICI CIP

In consulting, the ability to listen, having the capacity to pay attention to details, holding the natural ability to communicate clearly, providing relevant feedback & recommend effective solutions proficiently are essential skills that makes one a great consultant. This is why “mindfulness” is extremely important. Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, so that the mind is fully attending to what is being done at that point in time. This may seem trivial but we often realize (only in hindsight) that our mind often takes flight midway through work & we seem to get engrossed in obsessive thoughts about something that just happened or worrying about the future that hasn’t happened -  and all that can easily lead to poor consulting. Mindfulness is not a spiritual practice or some philosophical guff. It is all about cultivating a greater awareness of “self” and the devotion to break free from old habits & thought patterns that hinder transformation of goals into reality.

Facetelling: What Facial Features Tell about your Client? (0.2 CEUs English Session)

Cris Alves, Image Consultant, Face Analysis Specialist

Although it takes up only 1/8 of body proportions, the face is the element of greater impact in personal image. It is the point of visual and affective contact with everything around and it's responsible for 80% of the judgments formed in first impressions - the visual language of facial features is the factor most quickly interpreted by the brain. Thus, the reading of facial features is a valuable analysis tool for understanding people's behavioral and personality tendencies, with scientific basis. This presentation will provide image consultants with practical tools for identifying the shapes and proportions of clients' facial features, as well as reading each of them according to Morphopsychology (also named Facial Psychology). Through the study of each element of the face (forehead, eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, chin, asymmetries and face dimensions), we will teach the techniques for proper facial analysis by connecting it to behavioral areas and "noises" in the clients' image.

(I) Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Describe the process of neural image creation;
  • Recognize how face elements affect first impressions (before clothing);

  • Analyze face segments (upper, middle and lower thirds) and their relationships with the visual balance and behavioral tendencies;
  • Analyze face asymmetries, interpret their meanings and find ways to harmonize them;
  • Identify the emotional and behavioral tendencies of each facial feature.

Cynthia De La Garza, AICI CIC

Know Yourself: Grow Your Wealth (0.2 CEUs English Session)

Cindy Ann Peterson, B.S., AICI CIC

In our ever-expanding world of style and image experts, one problem that often arises is the question of what differentiates one image consultant from another. With similar services and training, it's virtually impossible to distinguish one consultant from another. Every consultant needs to understand that their competitive advantage and brand equity doesn't just come from their training and experience. It is the historical context of where they were born and raised, and major influences in their lives that makes each consultant unique.   There is no cookie cutter solution for what defines the best in the field. What is the best image consultant for one client can be the worst for another. Knowing how to apply your own personal history and adapt to your client should be the foundation for your brand. When plotting a course to success, image and style consultants need to understand that their unique value proposition doesn’t just come from their training and professional experience.

  • Define your core values
  • Identify your life experiences that make you unique

Think Big! 100 million potential users in Latin America!  (0.4 CEUs English Workshop) (Certified Member Only)

One great thing about Latin America is the single language that is common to these emerging countries.  With a young population, one in four people (100 million) is at an age that needs to go through job interviews, and work with people in an increasingly globalized world.  What if you can be a part of a movement where we can serve these 100 million young people by creating a cellphone product that they can use on an on-going basis?!  Imagine you can contribute by making a short, 5-min training lesson that can reach them.  Now imagine charging 99 cents per lesson...and we have 1 million viewers each week.  You do the math.  Similar initiatives are already happening in other emerging markets.  It is a collaboration between (1) your training company, (2) AICI, and (3) with AICI's strategic partner, IITTI, the standards people.  Come!  Think big!  Let's change the world!

Seeing the connection between ourselves and our favorites is deeply affirming. It validates our aesthetic preferences and creates a "design archetype" we can use to create looks that are not only hip and trendy, but more importantly, express who we are. You've never seen yourself this way before. Learning to provide this level of analysis to your clients creates "aha!" moments that bring them back again and again. High Impact Presentations - Public Speaking

Coca Sevilla, AICI CIP | Spanish
Did you know that according to studies, more than 90% of presentations are evaluated as boring, and only 3% are rated as effective or high-impact? It is therefore fundamental to learn the appropriate methodology for speaking convincingly. Nowadays, a presentation is one of the most powerful tools for making things happen. It doesn’t matter if it’s about captivating a client, motivating a team during training, or presenting a proposal during an image consultancy, the power of your presentation is the difference between success and failure.

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Face and Style Connection: A Tool to Enhance Your Client's Personal Image

Cris Alves | English
The face occupies a small physical proportion in relation to the body, yet it’s the most important element of non-verbal communication. It’s the visual and emotional point of contact with other people and is closely linked to our sense of identity — both internal and external. The visual language of facial features is the factor most quickly interpreted by the brain in forming first impressions. Thus, it’s essential to have absolute control over all the messages transmitted by features (i.e. haircut and eyebrows). This presentation will provide image consultants practical tools to identify the most expressive lines and their direction in their clients’ faces. By addressing the major points of thorough facial analysis, we will present the techniques of lines, shapes, colors, texture and light usage to soften or enhance the client’s facial features and how to apply these elements of design in clothing, connecting face and style in the visual identity.

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Closet Conversations – Creating Coherent Communication between your Clients and their Clothing

Sue Donnelly, AICI CIP LFIPI FFSM Assoc CIPD | I-A | Certified Members Only
We are all aware of the power of first impressions. Our clothes speak. They provide visual clues enabling others to make a judgment call. Our closets are a communication powerhouse, sending subliminal messages every time we open the door. To fully understand a client’s relationship with what they wear, we need to have the necessary tools. Color and style analysis create a wonderful foundation, but it’s essential that you have other methods of helping you to empower your clients, and their closets, so they love what you do and come back for more. Each client is different so a one size fits all approach just doesn’t give the best results. This workshop provides key standalone exercises and strategies that will help revolutionize your consultations, so the “true” client is revealed. The ability to empower clients to make their own choices based on what they have learned about themselves will help enhance your relationships and accelerate your business. This workshop will give you ideas to take away so that you can pursue, excel and evolve, whether you work in the personal, retail or corporate image market.

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Do Not Be Kidnapped by Color Usage!

Denise Wu, AICI CIP | Chinese
Should you wear clothes in deep or pale colors if you want your skin to look fair? Should you wear blue-based or yellow-based clothes if you want to have rosy cheeks? Is the function of seasonal color analysis looking for your suitable colors only? The myth about colors can put a limit on the possibility of color usage. To be constrained by the myth is just like being kidnapped! The reason is that people are subjective in their body image and their color preference, which has caused them to be kidnapped by themselves. Another reason is that a consultant who doesn't have enough knowledge in colors may send the wrong messages, which kidnap the clients unintentionally. In this session, hopefully I can help to reset your opinion on colors and to understand the concept of colors which can be applied in your consulting service. We need to keep an objective attitude to extend the range of color usage; never be kidnapped by color anymore. This should be the original mission and value of color usage.

Iconic Image - Freeing Your Inner Frida

Sue Donnelly, AICI CIP FFSM LFIPI | Beginner | Intermediate | Advanced
Frida Kahlo was one of the most prolific artists Mexico has ever produced. Physically deformed, first by childhood polio and later by a severe road accident, she had one leg shorter than the other and a totally shattered spine. Despite being bedridden or confined to a wheelchair, she still managed to produce the most amazing paintings and self-portraits. She died 63 years ago, but her face still ubiquitously adorns T-shirts, crockery, towels, etc., throughout Mexico. More importantly, Frida Kahlo pioneered her own unique, inimitable style. A non-conformist, she wore her art on her body both literally and figuratively. Her “be yourself” attitude continues to inspire today's fashion designers and celebrities. In order to be authentically beautiful, you may have to refigure what you know about image. This session, based on Frida and other well-known style icons, will provide food for thought, ideas and tips on how you might do that for yourself and for your client.

Patrick Chun, Christina Ong, Deborah King, Kimberly Law, Lilian Bustamante, Lynne Marks, Riet de Vlieger

The IITTI (“ET”) group was founded by Patrick Chun, Christina Ong, Deborah King, Kimberly Law, Lilian Bustamante, Lynne Marks, and Riet de Vlieger. They banded together in 2011 to try to solve a common problem with image training for multinationals, and that is, “How can HR train employees in a consistent, measurable way in branch offices across many countries?” In these last four years, they compiled a “standard” on image and etiquette that they can use for their private practices. But more radically, they opened this standard to all qualified image consultants (such as AICI certified members) to benefit the whole industry. They believe, by opening up the standard, the image field can grow to become a mainstream profession...so the pie gets bigger and everyone wins bigger.

Come to the “Lunch and Learn” session on the Thursday at the AICI conference to find out how you can reap the benefits to grow your business.

Claves para Asesorar a un Politico

Coca Sevilla, AICI CIP | Spanish | .2 CEU

There are a number of myths surrounding political image consulting due to what it entails. However, it is a reality that this is a poorly exploited niche of the market for image consultants and is therefore worth evaluating. Advising politicians represents an enormous commitment, which means that having an efficient methodology is fundamental to fulfilling our job successfully. Highlighting the virtues and minimizing the defects of these public figures is a challenge in an environment in which the people are constantly becoming more difficult to convince. In politics, there are no second places: you either win or lose. In this conference, we will identify how, through different image techniques; we can help a candidate to obtain the votes necessary to reach their goal.

Fashion Feng Shui

Keiko Couch | Japanese | .2 CEU | Advanced

I will introduce Fashion Feng Shui® (FFS) principles and show how they can be used in everyday life. According to Feng Shui everything is influenced by five life-forming energies; ”Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal”, each of which has a distinct energetic quality that is translated by specific colors, shapes and substances. FFS stems from Feng Shui. This new approach (originated the late Evana Maggiore, AICI, CIP) considers clothing to be our body’s most intimate environment and teaches us to dress the mind, body and spirit. What is your essential core energy? With a Fashion Feng Shui® assessment you will discover colors, patterns, fabrics, textures and silhouettes that express your essential energies. This often brings unexpected ways of joyful dressing. And you will learn to visually affirm what you desire. You will become centered and energized. Fashion Feng Shui® is a fabulous add-on for a color and style consultation.

In this session you’ll learn the skill of identifying ‘Design Lines’ and ‘Proportions’ within ready-made garments. Taking Shape: Throwing Image a Curve

Catherine Schuller, AICI CIP | English | All Levels

Full Figured woman helped build plus retail sales to $32 billion with over 30% of women's clothing brands finally providing attractive and fashion conscious clothing to satisfy this woman's newfound confidence. However, many plus customers are confused about what is right for them and where these resources exist in the marketplace. The need for image services has never been greater and the consultant's ability to become the "missing link" and connect in an advisory capacity serves an all-important assessment, recommendation and permission role that is emotional as well as practical and knowledgeable. The consultant serves to help shift from confusion to confidence, transforming attitudes by demonstrating that they no longer have to meekly accept frumpy fashions of yore which were foisted upon them by a one-size-fits-none fashion world that assumed they had no interest in fashion otherwise they would lose weight if they did. Things have changed, and the curvy community has grown to 63 million woman in the US alone, but many of them are overwhelmed by the choice (all of it not appropriate) There is a growing need to help rework and revamp women's closets starting with everything from a great bra (the foundation of style) to apparel that fits and flatters and is versatile and adaptable to every occasion creating a repertoire of "reliables" which also emphasizes the cluster and capsule wardrobe building concepts. This market is on the forefront of everyone's radar mostly because the internet has empowered this woman to claim her status as a fashion icon in her own right. It is up to us to guide her in this direction and provide her with the wardrobe wisdom that will empower and enlighten as to what's out there and where to find "it" and then what to do with it when she does.
