Maintaining Certification

Maintaining Certification

The AICI Certification Program is committed to promoting the highest levels of professionalism in the image industry. Certification validates you as a professional and enhances your credibility in the marketplace. AICI is committed to maintaining a high level of professional excellence, demonstrated by earning CEUs for ongoing education and advancement. After earning your AICI certification, you will be required to do the following to maintain your certification.

Certification Renewal Requirements

All AICI Certifications will be required to earn 2.4 CEUs every three (3) years in order to maintain certification. This renewal period is determined by the date that you earn your first level of certification with AICI. This may be your AICI Certified Image Consultant or your AICI Certified Image Professional certification. The three-year period ends on June 30 of the third year you are certified.

Certification Renewal Fee

The Certification Renewal Fee is due July 1 of your certification renewal year. This fee is in addition to your AICI Annual Membership Dues for your renewal year. Please see the schedule below:

Certification Renewal Extension Policy

Effective July 1, 2012, CIC or CIP certified members who do not earn 2.4 CEUs by June 30th of their certification renewal year may apply for a three-month extension in which to earn the required 2.4 CEUs.

A written request to be granted an extension must be submitted to AICI Headquarters at least one month (May 30th) before their deadline. Upon approval from AICI Headquarters, members will need to submit a $250 certification extension fee and a signed form in which they state their commitment to meet all the requirements before the new deadline, and also understanding of the consequences of failure to comply with the policy. The $250 certification extension fee is in addition to the $300 certification renewal fee. The $250 certification extension fee may not be applied toward the $300 certification renewal fee. All CEUs earned during the three-month extension will be posted to the member’s record with a date of June 30th and will be applied to the certification renewal period in which they seek an extension. CEUs cannot be used in the new certification renewal period.

Consequences of not earning the additional required CEUs during the three-month extension include:

  • AICI CIC Certified Members: Re-start the certification process; all fees apply. There are no discounts.
  • AICI CIP Certified Members: Complete and submit the AICI CIP Application and pay the AICI CIP Application fee again. There are no discounts.

Earning Required CEUs

It is your responsibility to monitor and maintain records of all CEUs earned. AICI maintains records of CEUs earned through AICI CEU'd Providers.

AICI Provides the Following Opportunities for Members to Earn CEUs:

  • Concurrent sessions and Workshops at the AICI Annual Conference
  • AICI Chapter Education Days that have been approved for AICI CEUs
  • AICI Webcasts
  • Programs/Trainings approved by AICI to offer CEUs. For a list of upcoming courses approved by AICI, click here. It is your responsibility to ensure the course you are taking has been CEU approved.

To Earn CEUs through Programs not Offered through AICI:

To earn CEUs outside the opportunities provided through our AICI CEU Providers, you must complete the Pre-Approval Application and submit it to the CEU Chair for approval 6 weeks prior to taking the program. Program content must align with the AICI Core Competencies. CEU eligible programs include:

    • Academic courses taken at a recognized Community College or University (provided they are not being taken as part of a degree program to receive academic credit)
    • CEU-approved courses offered by private companies, such as Fred Pryor Seminars or National Seminars Training. An internet search will reveal numerous CEU-approved courses.
  • Program content must be relevant to a category listed in the AICI Core Competencies.
  • Pre-Approval Application must be completed prior to attending a class for which you hope to earn AICI CEU's
  • Submit the Pre-Approval Application to the AICI CEU Chair for approval six (6) weeks prior to taking the program.

The CEU formula is:

  • 1 hour of approved training = 0.1 CEUs
  • 10 hours of approved training = 1.0 CEU

Therefore, on average, you will need eight (8) hours of approved training per year to earn the required 2.4 CEUs in the 3-year renewal period.

You may view your CEUs earned from AICI CEU’d courses in the Professional Development section of your Member Profile.
